I have always been a die hard fan of Mountain Dew, and this was the knock off. It still tasted horrible. I think they call it Vault Soda now and its way sweeter and way worse in my opinion.

I REMEMBER WHEN MELLO YELLO FIRST COME OUT.I CAN SAY IT TASTES DIFFERENT NOW THAN WHEN IT FIRST COME OUT.IT HAD MORE OF A CITUS TASTE IN THE BEGINING.WHICH I PERSONALLY LIKED BETTER THAN THE WAY IT IS NOW.WHY DID THEY CHANGE IT.

Mello Yello is my favorite drink. It can be hard to find. I live in IL and here they sell it at Super Walmart and Hyvee grocery. There has been talk by the Coke corporation that they are discontinueing it in the near future. I really hope they don't. Two weeks ago I bought 6-12 packs on sale for $3.99 each.

Mello yello is still distibuted in select areas, and Wayne, Vault is a totally different citrus soda with a load of caffeine-"drinks like a soda, kicks like an energy drink!"

Right now, I have 10 cases of it. I actually hoard it for fear of it being discontinued. :(

Yes! Yello Mello tasted better back in the day. I wish they would go back to the original flavor.

I'm surprised this thread about Mello Yello is posted under the 1970s. Mello Yello came out in late 1979 and gained its popularity (though I don't know why!) in the 80s. I was a junior in HS when it was launched, and - being a Coke fan - I tried and tried to convince myself I liked it. To no avail. Mello Yello is a stale-tasting distant cousin to Mountain Dew, and that's all it will ever be.

Dr. Pepper had long been rumored around the middle school to consist of carbonated prune juice. When Mello Yello was released, word on the street was that it was carbonated pee. But don't believe it. It only turns into pee. But then again, so does Dr. Pepper.
