Description
These were a step up from Pop Tarts. They were toaster pastries, but were more akin to a breakfast danish (hence, the name DANISH GO-ROUNDS). They were oval shaped and had fruit filling and a sweet glazed coating. I'm guessing these were around in 1972, but they didn't last long.

Loved these!! Were fun to pull apart as you ate them! Mysteriously disappeared from the shelves........

I remember these from when I was a kid. I always unrolled them to eat them. I would LOVE to have them again.

I emailed Kellog's a few years ago. I asked them (via email)about the Danish Go-Rounds. They said there was not a market for that particular food item. I think they should hire a new marketing staff!!!!
Kim - January 18, 2008 - Report this comment
I totally LOVED these too! I remember you only got 4 of these in a box compared to 6 in a box of Pop-Tarts. Was very sad when Kellogg's stopped making these although I have adopted a MUCH healthier diet than the one I had in the 70's! :)
Sedj - January 22, 2008 - Report this comment
My friend's dad worked for Kelloggs in the 70's. He used to bring home cereal & regular PopTarts (thanks to him I have a whole set of the little wooden PopTart men). One day he brought us what seemed to be a wonderfood, the Danish Go Rounds. I was about 7 and had never had anything so tasty. Hate to admit it, as a 43 yr old mother who is in good shape and eats well, I still eat blueberry PopTarts for breakfast. And I frequently wish I had some Danish Go Rounds.

I loved the Brown Sugar Cinnamon flavor. Someone has too tell Kelloggs to bring them back
ROBIN - March 17, 2008 - Report this comment
I LOVED them!! I bring them up occasionally and people look at me like I'm crazy (mostly younger ones that don't remember them), but, I would absolutely love to see them come back.

I wish Kelloggs would bring these back!!! They were soooo YUMMY!! My favorite was strawberry! I loved to pull them apart before eating them. Lots of people my age remember them fondly and loved them as much as I did!
Stuart - April 06, 2008 - Report this comment
These were the absolute BEST! They were ten times better than wimpy pop-tarts. Kelloggs would clean up if they marketed them correctly. Remember Milton the toaster?
Poodlygrrl - May 15, 2008 - Report this comment
I can even remember the song from the commercial! I loved these, there was a honey nut that was my favorite thing to eat. Auntie Anne's pretzels has a topping that in my taste memory is kind of similar, but the hunt for this Holy Grail of taste still continues....

I frequently long for a Danish-go-round. My favorite was the brown sugar-filled ones. Let's all bombard Kellogg's to bring them back. They beat anything I can find today.

I remember them as well. I was just asking my mom about these a couple of weeks ago. Neither one of us could recall the name. I would love to try one again.

I loved these as a kid, my brother and sisters don't remember them at all, I was beginning to think I imagined them. I don't remember the hole in the middle though.
Liz - November 26, 2008 - Report this comment
I LOVED these as a kid, esp. the blueberry iced ones and asked my mother about them recently--she doesn't remember them, so I thought I made it up. They were better than Pop-Tarts, but you couldn't try to pull off the icing and eat it in one piece, like you could try with Pop-Tarts, when they used to drizzle the icing on, and it would sometimes scorch in the toaster, and I mean SCORCH if you didn't watch it, or some other sibling rearranged the toaster setting on you. Yes, Danish Go-Rounds were definitely simple bliss in the morning!
Gunga - December 05, 2008 - Report this comment
These were the best. I guess Kellogg's does not know a good thing when they see it. I guess they make too much money now to ever care who liked what.
Kelly - December 07, 2008 - Report this comment

I was obsessed with these! I'm 43 -- I think the last time I had one in my mouth was when I was 4 -- and I can still taste the brown sugar cinnamon ones and the blueberry one. THEY WERE SO GOOD!!! I still dream of them...

I think of Danish Go-Rounds every single time I pass the pop tarts in the grocery aisle. I dream that I'll see them once again. I read nutrition labels and eat high fiber, high protein foods now as an adult, but I'd eat Danish Go-Rounds again. Please bring them back!
Ulan - January 24, 2009 - Report this comment

This sure brings back memories. Danish Go Rounds were the BEST. And, of course, I would unwind them to eat them too. Let's do a letter writing campaign and see if we can make Kellogg's bring them back.

I was searching the internet trying to figure out what the pastries were called. All that I remember was that they were absolutely delicious and pulling them apart while eating them and that ithey have danish in the name. Only after a few searches, I found this site and was so happy to fing that I wasn't the only one that missed them from our childhood. I do wish they would put them back on the market today. They would do so well now that we'll pay $5 for a coffee!

John - August 18, 2009 - Report this comment
Wonderful Danish Go-Rounds, where are you? Kellogs is definitely missing an opportunity to do a retro thing. And don't they realize all the 40-somethings with money who would wipe these off the shelves and then hook a new generation on them?
John - August 18, 2009 - Report this comment
In addition to hitting Kellog's contact us page, they also have a "send us your great ideas" page. http://www2.kelloggs.com/greatideas/default.aspx Might be worth giving it a try. Imagine seeing a commercial during American Idol or some other show 40-somethings watch -- "They're back! Kellogs Danish Go..." That's as far as they would get before people would be off the couch, jumping in their Lexus (or Accord, or Chevy, or Kia) and heading to Kroger!
MarkP - August 27, 2009 - Report this comment
Same as Jeffrey ... thought I was the only one who remembered these. Loved 'em! Miss 'em! I remember several years after the go-rounds disappeared that Kellogg's came out with an imposter; basically a go-round 'shape' pressed into a pop-tart pastry ... *bleh* ... thankfully those disappeared quickly.

Man I loved these things! If ever I'm in a new grocery store, I'll look...Just in case. Couldn't get enough of them. Wish they'd bring them back, but you know how that goes. It would never be as good as the childhood memory. When summers seemed endless and the ends of the earth went all the way to the end of your block and you could go to the moon and back and still be home in time for dinner. Ah, nostalgia...

I too loved the Danish Go Rounds in the 70's especially the cinnamon sugar- Kelloggs now makes a Cinnabon breakfast bar that has a somewhat similar taste. Doesn't have the crunchy outer pastry that I loved but the cinnamon taste is really good if you heat it in the microwave for a few seconds. Anyone else try these?
David L. - April 09, 2010 - Report this comment
If Kellogs thinks there is not a market for these now, they need to get rid of the book-worm marketing staff and put some 'real' folks in there. In today's bussiness world - if there is a slight chance...Take It and RUN. LISTEN UP KELLOG 'NO-IT-ALLS'.

Not only were these really tasty but Kellogs included a vintage baseball card in the box at one time. I can remember collecting and trading players like Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig and Honus Wagner. Sports and sugar. What else does a 9-year-old boy need?

I can't believe I finally found these. My gram used to toast them for us, but I swear she called them danke shoens (not sure about the spelling). Later, I discovered that meant "thank you" in German, but figured, who knows how they come up with food product names. They were definitely superior to pop tarts. Gram's toaster was finicky and she fried them up in the pan for us more than once (just like someone else mentioned).

HadEnuf - March 16, 2011 - Report this comment
Ran across something, some months back, that made it pretty clear that the problem's the producer, not the market: they didn't like the way the dough tended to crumble (left the product less pretty after being jostled a few times); and when they later "reformulated" under a different product name, with a different pastry, the new product fell flat. SO, of course, they assume the problem was lack of market, not failure to satisfy it.

Danish Go Rounds were simply the best. My favorites were the cherry flavored, but I loved them all. I remember buying them for the last time in 1978 in Columbia, Missouri. I had just gotten married and moved there for the University and I found them at the Gerbe's grocery store. It made me feel right at home, since I had enjoyed them for several years. Then they just disappeared from stores. So sad.

"You'll love new Kellogs Danish Go Rounds." So the jingle went. Yep. Loved 'em as a kid living in Iwakuni, Japan where my Dad was stationed. Walked to the commissary (base grocery store) to get some stuff for mom and sneaked a box of these in, too. The change didn't quite add up when I got home and ended up having to share my ill-gotten gains with my brother and sister. BUMMER! But I got a paper route and treated myself to a box of my own every now and then after that. Bought with my own money, I didn't have to share! This would have been maybe '72 or early '73.

They were wonderful. The darker side of them is that they caused a number of fires due to the fact that the Go Round was so large and heavy a lot of toasters just did not have the umph to raise the pastry and in turn shut off the toaster. The removal of the product was simply an escape from lawsuits due to fire damage.

Still thinking, the other company (do not remember the name) I believe was located in Georgia. At the time, I thought it was just a regional distributor of the danish (maybe within 400 miles of Georgia). It had to be a good sized company. Was it Flowers Bakery or another bakery? The danish was so good that you did not need to heat it in a toaster. I do not remember the Kellogg’s Go Round name, but I do remember Kellogg’s selling a similar product. Anyone from the southeast or your relatives in the southeast may have more knowledge of the danish.

In 1970, when Danish-Go-Rounds first came out, an early offer of 50 cents coffee money appeared on boxes. You had to send a cash stamp from the box plus register receipts for the pastries and the coffee. A lot of work to get that 50 cents. In 1972 and 1973, 3-D Baseball cards (series of 75 in all) were inside boxes. By 1974, demand for Danish-Go-Rounds was muddled by higher prices (and production costs), making Pop Tarts once again king of the toaster pastries (Milton the Toaster had a hand in this, too, in increased TV advertising).

There was a orange flavor that I liked. Yes orange. It was very mild. I didn't like strong flavors like blueberry or cinnamon as a kid. It was probably the first flavor that was discontinued. I remember looking for it at the store and not finding it. I was just talking to my husband about them and thought I would search for them online. There were six flavors all together. They were very short lived, but I still remember how it taste. Would love to have one.

Actually, I think we may be thinking about two similar, but different products. There were Kellogg's Danish Go Arounds and Kellogg's Danish Rings. I believe the rings came out after the Rounds. I think it's the rings that I am thinking of. There is a YouTube commercial advertising the Rings with a young Dana Plato. They were shaped very similar, but the rings had icing like pop tarts and they came in an orange flavor. I think they also came in cinnamon and strawberry. Not sure what the fourth flavor was unless it was blueberry. Looking at the Go-Rounds I think they came in six flavors. I saw a coupon when I googled for 7 cents off A box and though you can't make out all of the flavors, there are six boxes on the coupon. I have thought of these often through the years. Interesting to see so many others who remember them.

Found an image of a 1970 Danish-Go-Round box with a back-panel offer for a set of H.R. Pufnstuf hand puppets. A dollar and one Pufnstuf (proof-of-purchase) stamp was needed. I definitely remember Danish-Go-Rounds. But then there are many foods from the 70's I miss. On Saturday mornings, which was prime cartoon viewing time, my two sisters and I would split a box of Pop Tarts 3 ways, each of us got 2. with Danish-Go-Rounds we each got 1 and the last one we cut into 3 pieces. the wider tube of filling was so good when heated in the toaster. as to starting letter writing campaigns to "make" Kelloggs bring them back, I just don't think it will work in today's times. companies make decisions on computer models and really don't care about what people think anymore. Kelloggs DID have a lame Xerox of Danish-Go-Rounds in the 90's I believe called Danish Rings, but they were a shoddy attempt. They were way too small and didn't have as much filling in them. So it was a waste of everyone's time to have even brought them out. I don't expect to ever see Danish-Go-Rounds again, any more than I expect to see Kraft Koogle spreads, Betty Crocker Mug-O-Lunch, Cheetos Sour Cream & Bacon, Nacho Cheese Tostitos (much better than Doritos), Post Fortified Oak Flakes or tons of other things I miss. Can't go back to a time that's gone for good. Where's Burger Chef & Jeff when you need them?

From the Saturday morning cartoon vault, an early TV spot for Danish Go Rounds, using a carousel and a pleasant jingle. This aired on "Monkees" over CBS (5/10/70). The product, intended for teens or adults, wasn't advertised on any cartoon show (Pop Tarts were instead). CBS reran the "Monkees" for two years, intended to attract early teenagers. Episodes had minutes trimmed to jam in more commercials. Twister Game, Post Rice Krinkles and Raisin Bran (Bobby Sherman record on box), Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheats and Nestle Crunch Bar (Little Hans character) were other sponsors. Network promo for "Wacky Races."

I definitely remember these, from the early 70s (1970-1972 or thereabouts). I'm thinking Mom only bought these a couple of times, only four came in a package and they were fairly expensive in comparison to Pop-Tarts.

Danish Go Rounds were fabulous. The cinnamon ones were the best. I loved these. Never cared much for Pop Tarts. I wish they would bring these back. The 70s were a long time ago. They might be a big hit now - new generation.

I have tried for years to remember what these were! I remember being about three and eating something strawberry flavored that was shaped like a Q. I can still taste it. So glad to finally figure out what it was!

The ORANGE one was my favorite. I liked the cherry and the brown sugar cinnamon too. Ate them in the late 60's to early 70's. It's fun to see that so many others remember them too!

I will never forget the joy of eating a Danish go Round as a child at grandmas house.I was so sad when they disappeared from the shelves. I looked for them for years.
