We never put fizzies in water as we should have! We would just put them on our tongue and let them fizz, drooling sour fruity foam all over ourselves.

The original Fizzie tablets were sold by Emerson of Baltimore in 1956, later sold to Warner-Lambert. The FDA banned the artificial sweetener used to make Fizzies in 1968, and production was halted. Stores continued selling their remaining stock. Some had reserve stock to last them until about 1970. Flickr has an ad photo from about 1960, stressing the vitamin C feature of the product.
