Dr. Wells soda had a much broader history, going back to 1935 in Los Angeles, and competed directly against 1905 (org.) Dr. Pepper, based in Dallas. Luford was the first parent company of Dr. Wells. After five changes of hands (incl. Pepsi, briefly), Dr. Wells now is sold by the Dad's Root Beer Co.
