The ones I remember in the 70's were fake twin sets--they were a pullover with cardigan fronts sewn in the side seams, so it looked like you were wearing a pullover and a cardi but you had just the one layer in back.

In the States, the term "twin set" went out in the 50s and wasn't part of the 70s at all. When I hear the term, I think of wool or cashmere pullover sweaters with matching cardigans worn with a string of pearls over a pleated skirt. Not a 70s look at all.
