Description: The elastic/cloth stretched around any size bust with no shoulder straps. Very easy to make. Tube style dresses were popular too, the elastic material on top connected to a loose flowey skirt. Flowered, striped, solids were all popular.

I had a tube top that was the stretchy smocked around the torso with a poufy bust top then elastic band around the top of the pouf and tie string shoulder straps. It was a white thin terrycloth-like fabric. Boy I loved that top! Made this 12-yr-old feel SO grownup! Thanks for the memory!
I wasn't allowed to wear tube-tops because I was too busty but in the later 1970s didn't we all have a gold lame' one for the disco's that we used our fake ID to get into so we could dance? I had to sneak mine out and change in the car but it was worth it as long as I remembered to change back before going home!
I had a tube top for every day of the week and then some. if I got really daring I would wear it with my elephant jeans......talk about showing off skin! Hey what about Handkerchief tops remember those?
tube tops were great for me-i was well endowed enogh to look great but young and perky enough to not sag-today at 43 and after 2 kids it would be frightening!!
I was a bit shy to wear a tube top at first....but once I wore one, I was in heaven. So comfortable!! I would wear a polyester blouse buttoned half way and tied at the waist with a tube top underneath!
I loved wearing mine under an unbuttoned gauze blouse that tied at the waist.
My favorite way to wear a tube top was underneath a pair of cutoff overalls. Looked great until I wore it on a carnival ride that flipped you upside down.
I wore these all the time, as did my friends. Very cool in the summertime. I developed early, and once the boys pulled it down. So embarrassing! Then I started wearing the ones with the straps.
