I couldn't wait for my dad to buy me a new pair of pro ked blue canvass lo cut sneakers. I loved the bright red and blue stripe on the side and the bottom rubber was so thick. It felt awesome wearing them. They were the greatest thing for a kid to get a fresh pair of those. They bring back memories. I just order a pair for myself. You can still find them if you look hard enough.I can't wait to put them on again after all these years.

One early variety of Pro Keds was the Tiger Paw, with claims they'd help kids run faster and jump further in long jump. Keds were made by U.S. Royal Rubber (or Uniroyal). A TV commercial for these showed a boy running, then a trained tiger running in slow motion. It was narrated by actor Burgess Meredith (The Penguin on "Batman"). This aired on a Saturday rerun of "Underdog" over NBC (10/4/69).
