Description: White cotton underskirt with broderie anglaise trimmed frill, worn under another skirt but longer and therefore visible. Also trend to trim hem of a skirt with similar decoration to simulate the sae effect. Lasted one season only in 1978

I remember when these were popular! Yeah, it was early 1978, though some people started wearing them in '77. They sometimes called them underskirts. They were popular at about the same time anklet socks and bobby socks were worn with thin-strapped, high-heeled sandals. These weren't the stiff petticoats of the 1950s; these were like a slightly longer peasant skirt underneath another peasant skirt, but in white.

I loved my brodrie anglaise petticoat worn under my gypsy skirt making sure to have plenty of petticoat showing and wore with my gypsy top
