My favorite jumpsuit was a red/white pin dot halter top one made out of a slinky polyester. It had flare bottoms and I wore it "out" to the after party of high school graduation. You know, the first party that your parents allowed you to stay out all-night for.! I had a denim one that everyone wanted to borrow but it never fit them right. I had a royal blue one with bright yellow piping that had wide legs and bell bottoms. And in the summer I had a strapless yellow terry-cloth one that was uber-cute to put on after a day on the beach of the Great Salt Lake. Jumpsuits only looked decent on those who were tall, long-legged and of course, skinny!

I am a State Investigator working an old Murder in the 80's the victim was wearing a Red Terry jumpsuit it was straight across the upper chest, had pleats on front and spaghetti straps that went over the shoulder. It has an elastic waist and the shorts where cut high (like runners shorts) with white trim. I am probably asking for a miracle - but does anyone remember that type of jumpsuit? and where can I get one? (not for me to wear..lol) but for testing. dalekyarng@yahoo.com

70s-style jumpsuits were introduced, I think, by Yves St. Laurent in 1968 and tended to be fitted from top to mid-thigh or the knee, below which they'd flare to a foot-covering length. Most popular in the early 70s. I mostly remember seeing them in like a safari khaki colored cotton canvas (or a synthetic equivalent) when they had a safari shirt-like neck and short shirtsleeves, but they also came in halter-neck and spaghetti strap versions in slinkier fabrics. You also saw them in bright colors like lime green polyester with white topstitching. A lot of the sleeved ones had cuffs at the hem and many had zip fronts with a ring pull. Not to be confused with catsuits, which were like leotards and more popular in the 60s and late 80s/early 90s.

The only problem with jumpsuits is going to the bathroom!

They were a pain to go to the bathroom in! But, I thought they could be very nice looking (it helped to be slender in them). I had 3 jumpsuits, two were satin, one was a baby blue satin halter top type, like the girls in ABBA wore. The other one was a long sleeved black satin one. Great to dance and party in and I would even wear the black one on days when I just felt like it, they were fun. My other one sounded like the one at the top, a slinky polyester one with floppy legs. Fun times.

I met my future wife at a party/dance in the late 70's. There was a big outdoor party and dance in greek row at school. I was trying to get through people and came face to face with a girl in a baby blue satin halter jumpsuit, just like the ABBA girls wore. She was blonde with blue eyes, and was wearing blue eye shadow that made her eyes pop, she was the most gorgeous thing I'd ever seen. I muttered some comment about a blue vision that she laughed at and we started talking, and the rest as they say, was history. We got married after school and have been together ever since. I still remember exactly what she looked like that night, it was something special.

Jumpsuits were always something I liked. I've had a few over the years, usually in a silky material, they look good with the way they drape the body. During the disco years, I wanted a satin jumpsuit and couldn't find one I liked, so I made one. It took me some time, but it looked great by the time I finished it. It was an ultra smooth shiny black satin jumpsuit. I was so proud of it and liked it so much that I wore it for years afterwards. I liked the ABBA girl's ones too, but never had one.
