These were really popular in like 1968-1972, peaking about 1970. I remember seeing them in all kinds of fabrics but especially suedes. They were called granny boots because they were supposed to echo styles from, like, the 1890s. I remember them being worn with midiskirts, miniskirts, maxiskirts, knickers (knee-breeches for you Brits), culottes, hot pants, and with jeans tucked in. Popular at about the same time choker-style necklaces in suede were popular.

I remember a girl at work who had a pair of these boots (they had laces in the front, but actually zipped up on the side). Once I stepped on the front of one of her boots and she was irked until I got a cloth and it off.
