My mom made my friends and I granny square vests in almost every color. Then she got fancy and started doing them in more elaborate stitches, they were awesome!

My mom made me ne of these, purple I think. She evn made me a pinafore dress out of granny squares. She had found the pattern in an American magazine her aunt had left when visitting Denmark. I have a picture of me wearing it with a yellow t-shirt underneath and patent leather clogs with shiny metal studs for decoration.

Yup. I had a particularly hideous one in red white and blue.

Our next-door neighbor in the late 60s/early 70s had a yellow-and-white crosheted maxiskirt and a yellow-and-white crocheted miniskirt, with a matching vest. She may have crocheted them herself; a lot of people did in those days. It was considered really cool to do it yourself.
