These were called "Shim Shams" and were sock-like stretch vinyl and that pulled up the foot & ankle, making a pair of same-color shoes (usually made of vinyl or patten) look like a pair of short boots. There was even a TV commercial with a young women turning her shoes into boots and then wondering if she would turn them back into shoes or just leave them as boots.

I thought these were more from the late 60s, but I kinda remember seeing them in the early 70s, stretch vinyl to look like the stretch vinyl knee boots popular at the time.

Oh my gosh, I wore these! I thought I was the coolest. They were just after having white go go boots because of Nancy Sinatra thank you very much! How fun it was to stumble across these. I've talked about them but people look at me like I have two heads. It's great to see someone out there also remembers them!!
